JAX MIDI Module & Player functions as a GM/GS compatible multi-timbre synthesizer suitable for live performance or file playback. It serves as both a sound module for external MIDI signals and an audio unit that can be used in any host application supporting Apple's AUv3 format.

Equipped with over 370 instruments and drum sets, the built-in GM/GS synthesizer allows playback of standard MIDI files in real-time on 16 MIDI channels simultaneously. The module operates similarly to traditional external hardware modules from the late 90s. When used as an audio unit, it passes the MIDI stream through, enabling other apps like synthesizers and drum machines to benefit from file playback. Additionally, the internal sound generation can be muted using the main volume slider.

Key GM MIDI controllers are supported and clearly displayed for easy reference. Real-time display of the playing state for all channels is provided.

JAX MIDI Module & Player enables users to create their own MIDI files with notes using any external MIDI editor that can generate standard MIDI files format 0 or 1, complete with controllers, tempo changes, and more. These files can then be played back through the internal or any external instrumentation.

For compatibility with AudioUnits (AUv3), a supporting host application is required. Nevertheless, our app can function as a standalone host for the embedded unit, offering basic Core MIDI functionality for communication outside the sandbox.

This build of JAX MIDI Module & Player is truly 'universal', available for:

• iOS (iPhone)
• iPadOS (iPads)

As a note, separate native macOS releases (Mac Catalyst) will now be distinct from the iOS universal release due to specific optimizations necessary for native macOS apps. Consequently, there will be differing pricing structures for the native macOS versions.

Bringing AUv3 technology to all devices (compatible with GarageBand, Logic Pro X, MainStage 3 on Mac) posed challenges. Rather than multiple charges for different platforms, we have opted to provide releases across all devices.

Our builds incorporate the latest technology support for all Apple devices at the time of release. We continuously develop using cutting-edge Apple frameworks and compilers while striving to maintain compatibility with minimal requirements wherever feasible. With recent advancements in M1/2/3 and cross-platform optimizations, legacy device support below iOS 14 had to be discontinued. This policy also extends to our older apps which will be gradually updated to align with current technologies.
